Conference 2011

The 2nd International Conference of Young Specialists Actual Problems of Theory and History of Art was held in Moscow on 24–27 November 2011. The Faculty of History of Lomonosov Moscow State University hosted the sessions.

The conference was jointly organized by the art history departments of MSU and Saint Petersburg State University. It brought together senior students, postgraduate researchers, and early-career specialists, with Russian and English as its working languages.

Academic programme

The plenary meeting and thematic sessions addressed the art of the ancient world and the medieval East, Byzantium and medieval Russia, Western European art from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century, Russian art from the eighteenth to the twentieth century, and questions of art theory.

Two days of parallel sessions concluded with a closing discussion and the presentation of the first volume of Actual Problems of Theory and History of Art. The final day included academic visits to the Moscow Kremlin Museums and the State Tretyakov Gallery.

Emblem and publication

The conference emblem featured Egor Koshelev's 2005 work Acme, from the Regina Gallery collection in Moscow.

Papers from the conference were published in Volume 2 (2012) of Actual Problems of Theory and History of Art.
