Conference programme 2010

The 1st International Conference of Young Specialists Actual Problems of Theory and History of Art was held on 1–5 December 2010 at the Faculty of History of Saint Petersburg State University. The surviving programme combines three days of academic sessions with two days of off-site activities.

1 December — opening day

The opening was followed by a plenary meeting with papers on Byzantine and medieval Russian art, eighteenth-century Russian architecture, twentieth-century art history, and Oleg Liagatchev-Helgi's painting Soleil. A student photography exhibition and a tour of St Petersburg completed the day.

2 December — Russian art and creative projects

The programme included sessions on eighteenth-century Russian art and Russian art of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, a tour of the Twelve Collegia building, and presentations by students working with animation, computer graphics, historical costume, and monumental art.

3 December — Eastern Christian and Western art

Parallel sessions examined Byzantium, the Balkans, and Georgia; medieval Russian art; Eastern and Western art from antiquity to the Renaissance; and Western art of the modern period. A closing discussion followed the final papers.

4–5 December — off-site programme

The fourth day was devoted to a study visit to Veliky Novgorod. The conference concluded with a cultural programme in St Petersburg.
