Russian and European Tendencies in the Work of Ivan Zubov, Russian Engraver of the Early 18th century.

The article concerns with the problem of different influences on Russian printmaking of the early 18th century. To illustrate these problems there were chosen the works by Russian engraver Ivan Zubov, whose artistic personality was formed, on the one hand, by the old Russian art tradition (mostly by the icon tradition) and, on the other hand, by European printmaking experience (mostly by the tradition of Dutch etchings). The study is based on a stylistic analysis and comparison of a few works by I. Zubov in terms of two different ways of perception, Medieval Russian or Modern European.
