The East and the West. The Problem of Tradition in the Works of Uzbekistan’s Artists in the 1920s — 1930s.

This paper is dedicated to the paintings of such masters as Alexander Volkov, Mikhail Kurzin, Alexander Nikolaev and others. These artists came to Uzbekistan from different places and laid the foundation of its national art school. Traditions of Persian miniature and cubism, impressionism, Oriental ornaments and arabesques are incorporated in their works. One of the main objectives of this paper is to trace the interaction of different traditions and styles in the works of Uzbekistan’s artists in the 1920-1930s.
